Local Prison Guards win the ultimate iON Experience

A team of prison guards and friends from Gateside Prison in Greenock has won a national competition to complete one of the UK’s toughest endurance challenges Tough Mudder, with high tech point of view iON Cameras strapped to their head.

Recording every gruelling minute of the event in Dalkeith, Midlothian on 14th and 15th June, the cameras will allow iON Cameras to create unique videos of the team’s ordeal, so that they can relive the challenge again and again. The team were selected as winners, after the judges were impressed by their unique choice of facial attire for the challenge.

The Die Hards is a 14 man team made up of three women and 11 men aged between 20 and 53-years-old. The group’s name was inspired by one of the members who looks like Hollywood Star, Bruce Willis. In true team style and spirit, The Die Hards will complete the challenge with Bruce Willis masks on.

Members of the lucky winning team have won the chance to capture every muddy moment of their obstacle challenge by wearing an iON camera throughout the assault course. iON Cameras Ltd. will then wade through the footage that was captured and will edit it into a one-off DVD which will be presented to them as the ultimate Tough Mudder memorabilia.

Group leader Peter Longsworth isn’t new to Tough Mudder, having completed the challenge last year in just two and a half hours. Peter states: “I enjoyed it so much last year, it gave me such a good Anchorbuzz, and when I told all my friends and colleagues, they wanted to get involved too. I am slightly dreading doing the obstacle Artic Enema, it’s absolutely freezing! It involves jumping into a huge pit of ice.” The team is raising money for two chosen charities, The British Heart Foundation and a local dance troupe.

Peter comments: “The statistics for heart problems is so huge in Scotland, we felt it was important to try and help in some way” Part of the money will also go to a local dance troupe, that one of the team member’s son is a part of. We’re raising money to help fund mini buses to competitions and hire of halls for practice.”
