Former World Rally Champion and iON Athlete Petter Solberg insists that he is gunning for victory at the fifth round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship in Sweden today.

In recent events, the Norwegian driver has stated that he is ‘thinking of the championship’ and not taking as many risks as he did in 2013 for outright wins, but on the back of fantastic pace in Sweden, Solberg is aiming for the top step of the podium this afternoon.

“We set a fantastic lap time in practice, we think it was a track record but haven’t been able to confirm that yet,” said Solberg. “We have made some special set-up changes to the car this weekend that are like nobody else’s car here, they are from my rallying experience. In heat one I was really happy to be fastest, two seconds faster than the next guy.”

Despite being fastest in heat one, Solberg was third overnight thanks to a puncture in heat two, but hopes he has got his bad luck for the weekend out of the way.

“I did over half of the second heat with a puncture, I couldn’t believe that we set such a good time with a puncture. I hope that’s the bad luck used up now. I want to fight for the win here, but the big picture if definitely important too. If we are in the top four at the Intermediate Classification then we are on the front row for a semi final and we will go flat out for victory.”
