Trinder talks Mayrhofen
Jamie Trinder talks about one of his favourite resorts, Mayrhofen in Austria
Over the past decade Mayrhofen has become a Mecca for freestylers all over the world. The main calling point is the Vans Penken Park! Arguably one of the best kicker lines in the whole of Europe and rails to match all level abilities, this is definitely the place to come and hone your slopestyle skills.
Spending multiple trips with the GB freestyle snowboard Team out in Austria training in the past, I’ve come to realise what an amazing location Mayrhofen is. Being in Central Europe, it’s a perfect base for any snow sports athlete looking to develop their riding and progress to bigger and better competitions. With one of the best parks in Europe, the quickest park chair going and a sick scene of local and foreign riders, Mayrhofen is amazing for progression and learning tricks.
Zillertal arena, a 10 minute train ride from Mayrhofen, has an airbag and great powder terrain. There’s always somewhere to ride close by regardless of the weather!
Innsbruck is a free train ride down the valley and with flights all over the globe, massive indoor and outdoor skate parks. The snow park is quickly accessible using the direct gondola from the centre of town. Austria seems so well connected to me, even the athletes and organisations. One company called QParks run the majority of the snow parks in Austria, with shoots organised regularly and a whole scene of filmers and photographers floating in and out of resorts all over the country it’s amazing to work and get productive with all the opportunities that are going on.
With amazing events like the Wangl Tangl and Jib vid running in the past there is now a whole tour of contests in Austria throughout the winter season, most of which end up in the Zillertal valley and in the famous Penken Park!
